Srinagar: JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik on Friday filed a petition before the Jammu and Kashmir High Court seeking direction to the state government and security forces
to register cases in all the 117 deaths that took place during
disturbances in the Valley last year.
In his Public Interest Litigation (PIL), he named the
state government, Director General of Police, DG CRPF and
GOC of Army`s Northern command as respondents.
Malik has demanded that the investigation be monitored by
the High Court in cases where FIRs have been registered to
ensure that proper evidence is collected and the probe is
taken to its logical conclusion.
He suggested that the court may also give direction for
constitution of a high-level committee for suggesting ways and
means to prevent such deaths and laying down norms to be
followed by the armed personnel before they open fire against
demonstrators.
He also pleaded that the Court may declare that in the
event of any armed personnel found guilty of any act of
omission and commission, attracting penal provisions, they
would not be entitled to claim immunity under the provisions
of Armed Special Powers Act (AFSPA) or any other statute.
