Srinagar: Normal life in Kashmir was affected today due to a strike called by hardline Hurriyat Conference against the two-year jail term to Kashmiri separatist Ghulam Nabi Fai.

Shops, schools and business establishments in commercial hub of Lal Chowk and adjoining areas remained closed due to the strike called by Hurriyat hardline leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, officials said.

However, shops in Civil Line area and suburbs of the city were partially open, they said.

The strike call drew a partial response in other district headquarters and towns of the Kashmir Valley.

Few vehicles were seen plying on the roads across Kashmir, they added.

Geelani had called for strike against the conviction and two-year jail term given to Fai by a US court for illegal lobbying for Kashmir.
