LeT divisional commander killed in encounter in J&K

In a major successful operation, security forces on Sunday shot dead a top ranking militant and divisional commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in an encounter in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

divisional commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in an encounter
in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

After receiving specific information about the presence
of two top militants of LeT in the area, 25 Rastriya Rifles
(RR) and police launched a search operation in Mehrota in
Surankote tehsil of the district late last night, Senior
Superintendent of Police (SSP), Poonch, Ashkoor Wani said.

During the encounter, top militant and divisional
commander Abu Usmaan was killed, the SSP said, adding that his
body has been recovered.

A pistol and some ammunition have been recovered from the
slain militant from the spot of the encounter, he said.

The SSP said a gun fight was going on between the
security forces and the second militant.
