Srinagar: A day after a top army officer
opposed revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in
Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Sunday
appealed to the international community to put pressure on the
Centre for withdrawal of the measure.

"AFSPA is like a naked sword hovering over the heads
of the people of Kashmir," he said in a statement here.

Yesterday, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the
Northern Command, Lt. Gen. KT Parnaik, had said the army had
recommended that time was not ripe for removal of AFSPA from
the state.

The chairman of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat
Conference appealed to the global community to put pressure on
the Centre for lifting AFSPA.
