Srinagar: The tourist resorts of Gulmarg and Pahalgam were the coldest places in the Kashmir Valley as the cold wave continues to sweep the region with weather department predicting fresh snow and rain in the state. The weather department has forecast snow and rainfall
in the state over the next 24 hours.
"Rain and light snow is expected at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir," the official said.
In Pahalgam resort of south Kashmir mercury settled at a low of minus 11.7 degrees Celsius while in the skiing resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir the minimum temperature was
recorded at minus 11.6 degrees Celsius, a MeT department official said.
Meanwhile, Kargil town in Ladakh region remains the
coldest place in state with a minimum of minus 18 degrees C,
an increase of four degrees.
Leh town, also in Ladakh region, witnessed an
increase of two notches in the minimum temperature and settled
at a low of minus 17 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar city, the summer
capital of Jammu and Kashmir, was recorded at minus 4.8
Kokernag town in south Kashmir and Qazigund, the
gateway town to Kashmir valley, were also reeling under
freezing temperatures recording a minimum of minus 7.1 deg C
and minus 8.5 deg C respectively.
In the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir
the mercury settled at minus 4.8 degrees Celsius.
