Srinagar: Panic gripped Baramulla town of
North Kashmir on Thursday when a mob attacked the official vehicle
of Deputy Commissioner Bashir Ahmad Bhat with stones,
prompting his escort personnel to fire warning shots, official
No one was hurt in the incident which took place around
1630 hours at Cement bridge, 55 kms from here, while the
commissioner was returning to his office after conducting a
survey of certain land in the town, the sources said.
However, his vehicle was damaged in the stone-pelting by
the youth, who soon fled from the scene. Normal activities

The incident came barely a day after the Baramulla Police
organised a `Police-Public` meet to win people`s confidence.
About 1200 dignified citizens attended the meet and
pleaded for amnesty for the youth involved in stone-pelting
incidents in recent past, assuring that they would refrain
from such acts in future.
Police arrested at least 117 stone-pelters in the town
over the past three months.
