National Conference leader Iftikhar Misgar quits party, joins separatists

Srinagar: National Conference leader Iftikhar Misgar has quit the party and joined the separatist movement in the state, a media report said on Monday.

Citing sources, NDTV reported that Misgar feared for his life and his family after his house was attacked.

After he announced his decision, he joined a street protest, the report said.

Misgar had lost to J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in the June bypoll.

He joined the separatists out of fear for the safety of his family, the report said.

Locals refuted the claim.

Attacks on politicians have increased since the killing of terrorist Burhan Wani on July 8 that triggered protests across Kashmir, the report added.
