Jammu: A crucial meeting of the National Conference and Congress coordination committee scheduled for Sunday was postponed as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah pulled out of the panel.

The meet has been postponed due to "preoccupation of some of the participants", state Congress committee president Saifuddin Soz told reporters.

Modalities for the forthcoming panchayat polls in Jammu and Kashmir were to be discussed at the meeting.

Soz, however, did not give another date for the meeting.

But sources in the National Conference said that Omar Abdullah has pulled out of the coordination panel and that his father, Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah, too may not participate in the meeting.

According to the sources, Omar Abdullah has apprised the Congress leadership in New Delhi about his decision to stay away from the panel as none of his predecessors were members of the coordination committee during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-Congress rule.
