Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir NCP on Friday demanded proper security cover for panchayat members in the state and implementation of 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments to give more power to the panchayat institutions.

Referring to the recent killings of panchayat members in the state, party's state president Thakur Randhir Singh alleged successive governments in the state had failed to ensure empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions.

Seeking effective measures for security of panchayat representatives, Singh asked the government to provide a peaceful atmosphere to the elected panchayat members.

He also welcomed Centre's recent decision to allow FDI in retail sector.
