Srinagar: Hours ahead of the crucial
Unified Headquarters meeting here, the Northern Army Commander
today called on Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and
briefed him about the security situation in the state.
"Lt Gen B S Jaswal met the Governor at Raj Bhavan here
and briefed him about the security situation in the state," an
official spokesman said.
Lt Gen Jaswal was accompanied by the GOC of the Army`s
Srinagar-based 15 Corps Lt Gen N C Marwah.
During their extended discussions, the Governor and
the army commander reviewed issues relating to recent attempts
at infiltration from across the LoC and international border,
the spokesman said.
They also discussed other matters having a bearing on
the overall security environment in the state, he said.
The meeting comes hours ahead of the scheduled meeting
of the Unified Headquarters to be chaired by Chief Minister
Omar Abdullah where the suggestions made by the Centre in its
eight-point package will be discussed.
A review of Disturbed Areas Act, deployment of forces
and the number of security pickets are among the suggestions
given by the Centre in its package for normalising the
situation in Kashmir Valley.
