Srinagar: A notorious liquor
smuggler and drug peddler has been detained in south Kashmir's Kulgam district, police said.
Tariq Ahmad Bhat of Khudwani village was allegedly
running an illicit trade of drug peddling and liquor smuggling
in Kulgam area, a police spokesman said adding he has been
detained under the Public Safety Act.
A huge cache of liquor was recovered during a raid in
December last year after which a hunt was launched to nab
Bhat, who was finally arrested earlier this month, police
said.
On the recommendation of the police, the Kulgam District
Magistrate has ordered Bhat's detention under PSA, which
allows his detention for two years without a trial, and
lodged him at District Jail Kathua, the spokesman said.
