Omar criticises Mehbooba for defending PSA against Masarat Alam

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Wednesday criticised ruling PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on the issue of invoking of Public Safety Act (PSA) on Hurriyat Conference leader Masarat Alam.

Srinagar: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Wednesday criticised ruling PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on the issue of invoking of Public Safety Act (PSA) on Hurriyat Conference leader Masarat Alam.

"Where is Mehbooba Mufti? The person I'm watching on a TV news channel is certainly not the person I knew for the last six years," Omar wrote on twitter.Com.

"Suddenly there are 'red lines' that are being drawn in the sand. How people change in office(!)" Omar said on the microblogging site.

The PDP president, in an interview to a private TV news channel aired last night, defended the state government's decision to arrest Alam and book him under the controversial PSA, saying that actions supporting Lashker-e-Toiba terror group chief Hafeez Saeed would have vitiated the atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir.

Mehbooba, who had termed PSA as a "black spot" on democracy earlier as an opposition leader, made it clear that the decision was taken keeping in mind the forthcoming tourism season.

"Kashmir is on the road of economic recovery. People like Masarat Alam are danger to that recovery. Masarat Alam crossed the red line," she said.
