Omar supports Pahari-speaking people`s demand for ST status

Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah assured Pahari-speaking people that the state govt would provide them equal opportunities in the process of development of the state.

Omar Abdullah on Monday assured Pahari-speaking people that the
state government would provide them equal opportunities in the
process of development of the state.

"Equitable development of all areas and all sections of
the society is the benchmark of the governance of my
government", he said, assuring full support to the demand of
Paharis for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

The Chief Minister was addressing a delegation of
Pahari-speaking people led by Vice Chairman of Pahari Advisory
Board, MA Bukhari at a meeting in Jammu.

Omar told the delegation that he would take up with
Centre the issue which is pending for nearly two decades.

"I am going to take up this issue with the Prime
Minister through correspondence besides discussing it in
person with him during his visit to Jammu in the first week of
March", he said.
