Encounter between militants, security forces in J&K's Baramulla has now ended

Baramulla: The encounter underway between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Rafiabad has ended.

One militant has been killed in the encounter while the reports on the presence of a second terrorist in Rafiabad's Ladoora village in Baramulla district proved to be untrue.

“Earlier the reports were of two militants but there was only one who has been gunned down,” said Abdul Qayoom, SP, Sopore.

One Army jawan was earlier during the day killed in the encounter.

The encounter had started at around 7:20 am.

The terrorists were reported to be associated with the Lashkar-e-Islam terror group - the outfit that recently targeted cellphone operators in the Kashmir Valley.

Rafiabad is the same area from where the security personnel had captured second Pakistan terrorist Sajjad Hussain alive on August 28.

Sajjad was captured on August 28 following an overnight encounter near the Line of Control (LoC).

The recent cancellation of NSA-level talks between India and Pakistan has escalated tension across the LoC. Several civilians have been killed in recent ceasefire violations along the LoC and International Border.
