Jammu: Panchayats will now monitor the
working of 14 departments, including agriculture and social
welfare, in their respective areas, a J&K minister said on Saturday.

"The functioning of about 14 departments including
Agriculture, Industries and Commerce, Social Welfare and
School Education would be monitored by panchs and sarpanchs in
their respective areas," state Minister for Industries and
Commerce, SS Slathia said.

The government has yesterday issued guidelines to these
departments for devolution of funds to the three-tier
panchayat institutions, Slathia said while speaking at a
convention of panchs and sarpanchs of Vijaypur constituency
about 30 km from here.

Public Services Guarantee Act (PSGA) has been enacted to
make the administration responsive and accountable, he said.
Under the Act, departments have been made accountable to
provide time bound notified services to the people, the
minister said.
