Jammu: Opposition PDP on Tuesday accused Chief
Minister Omar Abdullah of making Jammu and Kashmir a "hell" in
the last two years of his rule and asked the Centre and the
media not to look at the state through the prism of security
but see things as they are.
"I request media and establishment in New Delhi not to
look at J&K through security prism", PDP President Mehbooba
Mufti told reporters.
Alleging that when it comes to Jammu and Kashmir, even
the media begins to work as part and parcel of the security
establishment, she said the media should be allowed to
function independently and show the truth as elsewhere in the
"I appreciated the media of the country for
highlighting corruption or Human Rights cases. But when it
comes to Jammu and Kashmir, they become part and parcel of the
security establishment. Allow media to show the truth on Jammu
and Kashmir as is being done in rest of the country", Mehbooba
Alleging manipulation of the media at the hands of the
establishment, she said when NC says something sensitive it is
played down by the press but when PDP does the same thing it
is blown out of proportion.
Describing the situation in Kashmir as "back to square
one," Mehbooba said two-year tenure of Omar-led coalition
Government has converted Jammu and Kashmir into a "hell".
"He (Omar) has made Jammu and Kashmir a hell during
the past two years. He has reversed the situation where it
used to be. He has frittered away all that had been achieved
in terms of peace in the state by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, PM
Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi", she said.
There is complete mis-governance in Jammu and Kashmir
and instead of taking precautions and bringing situation back
on track the state government is doing things which will only
aggravate the situation, she alleged.
