PDP calls for expediting rescue operations in Leh

Main opposition PDP today appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir government to speed up the ongoing rehabilitation and rescue operation in cloudburst-hit Leh.

Srinagar: Main opposition PDP today appealed
to the Jammu and Kashmir government to speed up the ongoing
rehabilitation and rescue operation in cloudburst-hit Leh.

"The ongoing rehabilitation and rescue operation should
be expedited to minimise hardships being faced by the affected
people," the PDP said in a statement after its team led by
Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Sartaz Madani
visited Leh to take stock of the situation.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) team, which included
MLAs Nizam-ud-Din Bhat and Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, visited
the worst-affected Saboo, Chubalsar areas besides Leh town and
other affected habitations. They also demanded that rescue
operation to locate the missing persons be further
accelerated.

"Wherever we went, people complained about failure of
the government to provide them timely relief at the time of
calamity," the statement claimed.

The team also interacted with leaders of the Ladakh
Buddhist Association, some representatives of Muslim
organisations and representatives of Ladakh Autonomous Hill
Development Council (LAHDC).

"Ironically, the government is not aware of the full
extent of the damage but media hype has been created about
rescue operation just to hoodwink the people," the statement
alleged.

The PDP also demanded compensation for the affected
people. "There is a need to provide advanced medical treatment
to the injured and teams of specialist doctors should be
rushed to Ladakh in this regard," the statement said.
