PDP-sponsored Panchayat welcomes CBMs

PDP-sponsored Panchayat conference on Saturday asked the Centre and the state government to take steps for resolving the Kashmir issue.

Srinagar: Welcoming confidence-building
measures (CBMs) announced by India and Pakistan recently, a
PDP-sponsored Panchayat conference on Saturday asked the Centre and
the state government to take steps for resolving the Kashmir
issue.

"The conference demands the Centre and the state take
steps in right direction for resolving the Kashmir issue," a
resolution adopted at a meeting of recently-elected panchs and
sarpanchs owing allegiance to the main opposition party said.

The PDP, which claimed to have won more than 8,000
panch and sarpanch posts out of 15000 in the Valley, had
organised the conference to press for political resolution of
the Kashmir issue.

PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, party chief Mehbooba
Mufti and other senior leaders, including MLAs and MLCs, were
present at the conference.

Senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beig, who read the
resolution, said the party was happy the Valley was witnessing
a peaceful summer this year.

But, this could not be sustained unless the basic
issue was resolved, he said.

The conference welcomed the Jammu and Kashmir-centric
CBMs announced by India and Pakistan during the talks between
External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and his counterpart Hina
Rabbani Khar in New Delhi recently.
