Protests in Srinagar over flood relief distribution

Protests were held in parts of the city on Wednesday against alleged delay in relief distribution to the flood affected people.

Srinagar: Protests were held in parts of the city on Wednesday against alleged delay in relief distribution to the flood affected people.

Residents of Shalteng, Parimpora and Batamaloo blocked the Srinagar-Baramulla road at several places.

"All we hear is that tonnes and tonnes of relief material have been distributed among the flood victims. We have not seen anyone here distributing any material," Ghulam Mohammad, one of the protesters at Shalteng, said.

The protestors also claimed that electricity and water supply had not been restored in their areas.

Residents from Batamaloo and adjoining areas staged a sit-in and blocked the road near Civil Secretariat, the seat of the state government.

The blockade of the Srinagar-Baramulla road has snapped traffic movement between central Kashmir with the northern areas of the Valley.
