According to Indian Express, one terrorist was killed in Kakapora area of the district. The operation is still reportedly underway.
Srinagar: The security forces have gunned down one terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Saturday during a gunbattle with militants.
Security forces this evening launched an anti-militancy operation after receiving a tip-off about their presence at Begumbagh village in Kakapora area, 25 km from here, a police official said.
Hiding militants opened fire on noticing the security forces who retaliated, triggering a gunbattle, he said.
One militant was killed in the gunbattle, the official said, adding the identity and group affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained.
The attack comes hours after the Pakistani troops resorted to heavy firing on the border areas of Nowshera and Sunderbani sectors, drawing strong retaliation from Indian soldiers.
The latest firing by Pakistani troops is the second ceasefire violation in less than six hours, PTI reported.
"Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation in Nowshera sector from 1030 hours using 120 mm mortars and small arms fire.
“Our Army is giving a befitting response to Pakistani fire," it said quoting a defence spokesman.
He said there has been no loss of life, injury or damage to property reported so far even as the exchange of firing continued.
"Our troops are giving a befitting response," the spokesman added.
