Rajendra appointed acting DGP of Jammu and Kashmir

Senior IPS officer K Rajendra was appointed as the acting Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Srinagar: Senior IPS officer K Rajendra was on Wednesday appointed as the acting Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Rajendra, a 1984 batch IPS officer, will take charge from Kuldeep Khoda who retires as DGP on Thursday

The appointment of Rajendra, at present Additional DGP, was cleared by a meeting of the state cabinet presided by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Tangdhar near the Line of Control, 184km from here, on Wednesday.

"Upon the superannuation of Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda on May 31, the cabinet decided that K Rajendra, Additional Director General of Police (Arms, Law and Order) may hold the charge of Director General of Police (DGP) until such time as the successor to Khoda joins," an official spokesman said.

Additional Director of Intelligence Bureau Ashok Prasad is likely to take over as DGP of the state next month.

The state cabinet also ordered transfers and postings of several senior officers.

Bipul Pathak, Commissioner-Secretary, Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department, and Ashraf Bukhari, Secretary to Science and Technology and Information Technology Department, will swap places.

Sudershan Sharma, Settlement Commissioner, has been transferred and posted as Registrar Cooperative Societies.

The cabinet also approved the appointment of Nalini Kohli, Principal, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, as Director, Colleges, on officiating basis.

It also approved the establishment of Jammu and Kashmir State Road Development Corporation (JKSRDC) which will act as a nodal agency of the state government for executing major roads and allied surface infrastructure projects.

The Corporation will be notified as "State Highway Authority".

Minister for Public Works and Minister of State for Public Works will be the Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively of the Board of Directors of the Corporation.

Administrative Secretaries of Public Works, Finance, Planning, Forest, Housing and Urban Development departments and Managing Director JKSRDC will be the Directors of the Corporation.

The cabinet also directed Power Development Department to frame a scheme for interest waiver as one time amnesty in respect of domestic consumers.
