Srinagar: The cruise on River Jhelum through the Old Srinagar city might not have attracted large number of tourists but a business family from north Kashmir found the ambience good enough to hold the ring ceremony for their daughter’s engagement onboard the boat.
However, the families of the boy and girl, who were engaged on board the cruise, requested that their names and personal details should not be published.
The boy, who is working as an Engineer in a multi-national company, exchanged rings with the girl, a post-graduate from University of Kashmir, as only close relatives were invited for function on the cruise.
The idea of holding the ring ceremony on the cruise was suggested to the girl’s family by Rauf Tramboo, president of Travel Agents Association of Kashmir.
The Jhelum cruise was started last year to give another option to tourists to acquaint themselves with the heritage of the Old Srinagar city as heritage buildings, mosques, shrines and temples dot the banks of the river.
However, the cruise has not been a hit with the tourists who prefer to visit places like Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sonamarg besides the Dal Lake and gardens around it.
