Scholarships, free education for wards of J&K cops

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said it is providing scholarships and free education to children of its personnel as part of the welfare measures taken for them.

"Welfare of the wards of police martyrs and serving personnel has always remained our priority and the department has taken many initiatives to provide financial assistance to these children so that to continue their studies," DGP Kuldeep Khoda said.

Besides scholarships, free education is provided to them in Police Public Schools established in various districts of the state, he said at a function held to announce scholarships of over Rs nine lakh to 230 wards of serving and martyred police personnel.

While scholarships of over Rs 8 lakh were given to 166 children of policemen who died while fighting militancy, educational grant of over Rs one lakh were sanctioned in favour of 64 wards of serving personnel who secured 75 per cent and above in class 8th and 9th, the DGP said.

He said the scholarships for the academic year 2010-2011 have been sanctioned out of the Central Police Welfare Fund, created for promoting quality education among the children of its personnel.
