Jammu: The security forces on Wednesday afternoon killed a top commander of the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) after a six-hour-long fierce gunbattle in north Kashmir's Sopore area.
According to reports, self-styled LeT commander Abu Huzaifa, who was wanted in several cases, was killed in a joint operation by the army, CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
"The body of the militant has been recovered and he was affiliated to Lashkar," a police official said.
The ultra has been identified as Abu Huzaifa, he further confirmed.
Some arms and ammunition were also recovered from the scene of the encounter.
The operation began in the wee hours of today following intelligence inputs about the presence of some dreaded LeT terrorists in the Chankhan area of Sopore.
The security forces had cordoned off the entire Chankhan area and began a massive search operation to flush out the militants reportedly holed up in one of the houses there.
The situation remained tense till the end of the operation due to intermittent firing from both the sides.
