Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has
said the formation of a Farmers Producers Organisations (FPO)
in the state is well underway, with a baseline survey on the
proposal by the Indian Society for Agri-business Professionals
(ISAP) in its completion stages.

The conference is a part of the sensitisation-cum-
training programme of the centrally sponsored National
Vegetable Initiatives for Urban Clusters for Jammu scheme.
Establishment of the FPO is being done on the
recommendation of a small farmers’ agri-business consortium and
the process will lay the foundations of an effective mechanism
for growth of the agriculture sector through vegetable
development, he said.
This programme was designed to create employment
opportunities for skilled and unskilled persons, especially
unemployed youth, he said.
Referring to the formation of FPOs, their functions,
operational modalities and their role in end-to-end linkages,
ACTECH Information System Ltd Project Director Arvind Pachori
said that his goal was to develop a three-tier system for FPOs
at the cluster, block and district-level so that issues
related to production, technology, refinement validation,
dissemination, post-harvest management and marketing are
addressed in a structured manner.
