Srinagar: Six residential houses were, on Tuesday, damaged in a fire in Khanyar area of Srinagar, officials said.

Fire broke out in a residential house at Nowpora in Khanyar area of the city this morning and quickly engulfed the adjoining houses, they said.

Four houses were gutted in the blaze while two other houses suffered damages, they said.

The Divisional Administration has provided relief material including mattresses, blankets, kitchen sets and clothes for the fire victims.

Medicines Sans Frontiers (MSF), an NGO, also provided relief items like foam matting, jerry cans, tarpaulin sheets, sanitary items, socks and warm inner-wear, the officials said.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Baseer Ahmed Khan has sanctioned Rs 10,000 each for the four fully damaged structures and Rs 5,000 each for two partially damaged houses, from the District Red Cross funds.
