Special squads to check misuse of domestic LPG cylinders in JK

Srinagar: As the demand for cooking gas has
increased manifold in Jammu and Kashmir due to the intense
cold wave and frequent power cuts, the state government has
formulated special squads to check misuse of LPG domestic
cylinders in the Valley.

"A special drive has been launched in the Valley to check
the hoarding and profiteering besides misuse of LPG
cylinders," Director, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution
(CAPD) department, A W Tak said.

Special squads have been constituted at district levels
in this connection, he said.

Tak said the enforcement squad of CAPD headed by him
seized about 200 LPG domestic cylinders from various offices
during a surprise inspection of various government
establishments here yesterday.

Cases have been registered against the offenders under
the Essential Commodities Act and all concerned LPG agencies
have been instructed to issue commercial cylinders to offices
for the purpose of heating, he said.

The special squad also seized a large quantity of LPG
cylinders in Anantnag, which were being used illegally for
commercial purposes, Tak said.

The checking squad of CAPD department also conducted
surprise visits of various offices in Kulgam district of south
Kashmir and found domestic LPG cylinders being used for
heating purpose in some offices, he said.
