Srinagar Muncipal Corp suspends six employees

Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has suspended six of its employees and terminated the services of two casual workers for money fraud worth crores.

Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation
(SMC) has suspended six of its employees and terminated the
services of two casual workers after a preliminary inquiry
established their alleged involvement in money fraud worth
crores.

"A preliminary inquiry was ordered by Commissioner SMC
and on the basis of interim report, six employees of the
Corporation were suspended," a spokesman of the corporation
said.

He said the six suspended employees have also been
charge-sheeted while the two casual workers have been
terminated from the service.

The action against the six employees came yesterday after
a media report alleged a scam worth crores of rupees in the
SMC involving many of its employees for allegedly diverting
financial benefits of their colleagues into fictitious
accounts.

Some of the clerks of SMC in the tainted list were found
having Rs 1.33 Crore, Rs 71 lakhs, Rs 43 and 17 lakhs in their
accounts, which is grossly disproportionate to their known
sources of income, the report claimed.

The case has been referred to Director Audit and
Inspection, Finance Department for detailed audit of the
accounts of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, so that the actual
quantum of fraudulent payments is ascertained, the spokesman
said.
