Jammu: Voicing concern over the declining
female sex ratio in J-K, Minister for Health and Family
Welfare Sham Lal Sharma on Wednesday said effective measures will be
taken to curb pre-natal sex determination tests.
He asked the enforcement agencies to conduct surprise
checks frequently on ultrasound clinics and nursing homes to
stem the rot.
Stressing the need for launching a massive public
awareness campaign about the repercussions of imbalanced sex
ratio, the Minister said that situation is becoming alarming
day-by-day and time has come to act decisively against the
erring clinics.
He warned of strict action against those indulging in
such tests and female foeticide.
Speaking at a workshop on pre-conception and
post-natal sex determination test, organised by the State
Health Society (NHRM), the Minister said that it is the
duty of every citizen to support the government in eradicating
this heinous crime from the society.
