Srinagar: Two Army personnel and four militants were killed in a gunfight in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday morning, said Army spokesperson.

"Two Army personnel were killed and four others including an officer were injured in the encounter with militants in Marsari village of Chowkibal border area. Four militants were also killed in the gunbattle," a senior police officer said.

"The house in which the militants were holed up has been destroyed in the operation."

Security forces including Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) surrounded a house in Marsari village last evening on information that a group of militants were hiding there.

When the security forces closed in on the house, the militants opened fire.

The two victims succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
