Two Austrians rescued in Leh

Army today rescued two Austrian tourists who were stranded in Khalsi area after being injured in Friday`s cloudburst and flash floods.

Leh: Army today rescued two Austrian
tourists who were stranded in Khalsi area after being injured
in Friday`s cloudburst and flash floods.

Benno Wiesenberger and Gudrun Sonderegger were on a
trekking trip in the area of Lamayuru when they were caught in
the flashfloods, Army`s Northern Command Spokesman said,
adding one of them suffered suspected spinal injury.
Army aviation helicopters located and evacuated the
two injured Austrian to military hospital here, he said.

Later, the Austrian Ambassador to India spoke on phone
to the army authorities and personally thanked them for the
effort.

He also conveyed appreciation for the Indian Army`s
efforts on behalf of Government of Austria.
