Two suspected cases of H1N1 reported in Jammu

Few days after a person died of H1N1 infection in the Valley, two suspected cases of Swine flu were today reported from the SMGS Hospital here.

Jammu: Few days after a person died of H1N1 infection in the Valley, two suspected cases of Swine flu were on Sunday reported from the SMGS Hospital here.
"We are treating two suspected cases of Swine flu in our hospital," Medical Superintendent of the SMGS Hospital Dr A K Sharma told PTI.

Sharma, however, said that confirmation in this regard can only be made once the medical investigations are complete.

"We have sent their samples for investigations and once we get the reports only then we can confirm the infection," he said.

Sharma, though, said that he was hopeful that their reports will be negative.

Asked what then prompted to suspect H1N1, Sharma said there were some symptoms which were similar to that of the Swine flu.

The two suspected patients, a 12-year-old boy and a six-month-old baby boy were admitted to the hospital on February 4 and 7 respectively.

Sharma, however, did not divulge the further details of the two.

Few days back, an employee of the super specialty Sher-e-Kashmir-Institute of Medical Sciences Soura (SKIMS) had died of H1N1 infection in the Kashmir.

Authorities in the Valley on Friday had issued a Swine flu alert as doctors said the H1N1 virus was present in some parts of the local community.
