Undertrial commits suicide in J&K

An undertrial was on Thursday found hanging from a window of Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in Jammu, police said.

Jammu: An undertrial was on Thursday found hanging
from a window of Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in Jammu,
police said.
Surfu Ram, who was brought to JIC for interrogation in
connection with a case of unlawful activity on August 12,
hanged himself from a window of the JIC lockup at Miran Sahib
area of Jammu district this morning, Superintendent of Police,
CID, CI, Joginder Singh said.

He was immediately shifted by the policemen to a hospital,
where doctors declared him brought dead, the SP said.

A post mortem is being conducted in this regard to know
the exact cause behind the death of Ram. A case has been
registered in this regard, he said.
Ram was being subjected to sustained interrogation since
August 12, when he was brought to the JIC.

"We have asked the District Magistrate for a magisterial
inquiry into the suicide," Singh said.
