Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister
Omar Abdullah on Tuesday directed the officials to utilise the
railway facility for transportation of fruits to terminal
markets.

"Besides deploying adequate trucks for trans-shipment of
fruits, the railway facility should also be utilized in this
regard," Omar said during a review meeting held here.

The rail services in the Valley, which run from
Qazigund in south Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir, are
at present suspended as it been targetted by protestors
several times during the ongoing unrest.

Underlying the importance of fruit industry in the
economy of the state, the Chief Minister directed the
concerned departments to take every measure for facilitating
smooth trans-shipment of fruits from the Valley to the markets
outside the state.

The meeting was told that the fruit crop in the Valley
this year has been bumper and, as such, export is expected to
be of the higher order.
