Jammu: Body of an Army man who got washed away during the Leh cloudburst has been found in the Turtuk belt of Ladakh region, a senior Army officer said on Friday.

Brigadier General Staff of Northern Command Sanjay Chawla said the body has been brought to Leh for identification. He did not state when the body was found.

The Army had said that 33 soldiers, including three JCOs, deployed along the Line of Control, were washed away in the flash floods in Ladakh region near Siachen on Friday.

The Army had sought the help of Pakistani authorities to rescue the personnel of 15 Bihar infantry regiment as it feared that they may have been swept away towards Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the deluge.

The jawans, who were manning a post near Turtuk along the Line of Control, faced the fury of Shyok river on the same day when Leh was hit by devastating cloudburst.

Pakistan had yesterday handed over an unidentified body of a flash flood victim to Indian authorities.

Official sources said the decomposed body was handed over to the authorities at a particular point along the LoC in Kargil sector.
