Will not vote due to govt`s dismal performance: J&K MLA

Independent J&K MLA from Langate Assembly constituency Sheikh Abdul Rashid on Tuesday said he will abstain from voting for six Legislative Council seats in the state, citing the reason as the government`s "dismal performance".

Srinagar: Independent Jammu and Kashmir MLA
from Langate Assembly constituency Sheikh Abdul Rashid on Tuesday
said he will abstain from voting for six Legislative Council
seats in the state, citing the reason as the government`s
"dismal performance".
"The government has failed in all respects, be it human
rights or governance. People had pinned great hopes on the
young Chief Minister (Omar Abdullah) but his dispensation has
failed them," Rashid said here in a statement.

"The National Conference-Congress coalition government
has buried itself in self-seeking pursuits whareas issues of
public importance have been put on the backburner," he
alleged.

Referring to the Dogra certificate controversy, he said
instead of focussing on intra-regional harmony in the state,
some people in the government seem to be "hell bent" on
creating more mistrust among the people of different regions.
"If (Minister for Public Heath Engineering) Taj Mohi-ud-
Din is right in saying that the decision about Dogra
certificate was taken unilaterally by the Revenue Minister,
then does it not prove that there is lack of coordination in
the government?" he said.

The MLA said it was unfortunate that the ruling party
laughed at him when he raised the Dogra certificate issue in
the just-concluded session of the state Assembly.

"If the government had exhibited seriousness on the issue
in the House, it would not have taken such an ugly turn," he
said.

Rashid said all this misappropriation and chaos in the
government convinces him that it is in his to stay away from
the election process of the Legislative Council.

"It is better to keep off from this mess than becoming
part of it at the cost of larger interest of the people and
the democracy," he said.
