Woman, hit by bullet during Valley unrest, dies

A 45-year-old woman, who was critically injured in a firing incident during the last year unrest in the Kashmir Valley, has succumbed to her injuries in Baramulla district, official sources said.

Srinagar: A 45-year-old woman, who was
critically injured in a firing incident during the last year
unrest in the Kashmir Valley, has succumbed to her injuries in
Baramulla district, official sources said on Friday.

Haneefa, a divorcee, succumbed to injuries at her
parental home at Kreeri, 35 kms from here, after remaining
bed-ridden for nearly eight months, they said. With this the
death toll in the unrest has climbed to 115.

She was hit by a bullet in the abdomen during one of
the protest demonstrations in the area.

Over a dozen people died in Pattan and adjoining areas
during the last summer unrest.

As the news of her death spread, hundreds of people
visited the bereaved family and later took part in her funeral
procession, they said.

Additional police and paramilitary forces have been
deployed in the area as a precautionary measure to maintain
law and order.
