Garhwa (Jharkhand): About 42 quintal of wheat has rotted away in drought-hit Jharkhand's Garhwa district, officials said on Saturday.

"A probe was ordered to look into why the wheat was allowed to rot after the police had seized the grains and kept in the Bhandaria police station," Deputy Commissioner Praveen Shankar said.

The grains had to be thrown away on Thursday after they perished, he added.

Garhwa is one of the worst drought-hit districts of Jharkhand.

The entire state was declared drought-hit during the President's rule in July.

The Arjun Munda government has already announced to give 35 kg grains at Re 1 for BPL families and 20 kg grains to 11.45 lakh non-BPL families per month.
