Medininagar: A headmaster of a school in Latehar, who was abducted on Thursday by unknown men in Palamau, was on Saturday set free by his kidnappers, a senior police official said.

"After the police got information about his kidnapping, raids continued for the last two days, forcing abductors to set him free," Latehar Superintendent of Police Kranti Kumar told a news agency over phone.

Carlos Toppo, the headmaster of Sildag Middle School in the neighbouring Latehar, was going somewhere by motor-cycle when unidentified men abducted him on Thursday, and had called up his wife to demand five lakh rupees for his release.

He was sighted on the borders of Latehar and Palamau, the police said.
