Action after probe into alleged leakage of Jharkhand budget: Pranab

New Delhi: An enquiry into the alleged leakage of Jharkhand budget is on and the state government would take appropriate action on receipt of the report from the police, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said on Friday.

"The state government has examined the matter and referred it to Special Branch of Jharkhand Police for investigation," Mukherjee said in Lok Sabha while responding to the issue raised by BJP leader Yashwant Sinha during a debate on the state budget presented on July 8.

He said appropriate action would be taken by the state government "immediately on receipt of the report from the Special Branch".
After Sinha raised the issue alleging that the budget was "leaked in newspapers at Ranchi before it was presented to the Lok Sabha," Mukherjee had assured the House that the matter would be looked into.

The minister said the state government was informed that the Ranchi edition of a Hindi daily had published a news on the state budget "showing revenue and capital expenditures under Plan and non-Plan heads along with corresponding figures
of 2008-09 (Revised Estimate) and 2009-10 (Vote on Account)."

The budget was passed by Parliament as Jharkhand is under President`s Rule.
