Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim, who has been widely tipped to take over as coach of Ligue 1 side Monaco, left Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday after just one season, both parties announced.
"I`m here to say farewell to the club and to the supporters" said Jardim, 39, who played down speculation that he was on his way to Monaco. "That which concerns my future will be announced when the time comes," he said at a press conference where he was accompanied by Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho, who remained tight-lipped as to who would be Jardim`s successor. Jardim`s departure came 12 months to the day after he penned a two-year deal with Sporting, who he steered to a second-placed finish behind champions Benfica. According to reports in the Portuguese media Jardim will be replaced by compatriot Marco Silva, 36, who guided Estoril to fourth in the Primeira Liga, a year after the modest outfit finished fifth.
