Doctor strike in Jharkhand affects health services

Medical services were affected in Jharkhand on Wednesday as more than 2,000 government doctors went on strike in support of their 12-point demands that include raising the retirement age from 60 to 62 and more.

Ranchi: Medical services were affected in Jharkhand on Wednesday as more than 2,000 government doctors went on strike in support of their 12-point demands that include raising the retirement age from 60 to 62, granting promotion avenues and regularizing contract doctors.

"The emergency services have been kept out of the strike," Navin, convener of the Jharkhand Health State Services Association, told reporters.

The Jharkhand unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has extended moral support to the strike.

"We have been placing our demands before the government for long. It has turned a deaf ear to our demands, forcing us to go on strike," Navin said.
