Ranchi: Former Jharkhand minister Enos Ekka’s elder brother, Gibyon, was on Saturday arrested by CBI for failing to appear before a special court in connection with a disproporationate assets case.
Gibyon Ekka was arrested from his Pakartar village in Simdega district, as he was not appearing before the special court even after being named in the chargesheet filed on January 27, resulting delay in trial, a senior CBI official told PTI here.
The investigating agency produced him before the CBI court, which remanded Gibyon to 14 days` judicial custody.
Some other relatives of Enos Ekka are evading arrest. They were charged with abetment in accumulating illegal assets during Enos Ekka’s ministerial tenure, he added.
On January 27 this year, the CBI had filed chargesheet against Enos Ekka, his wife, Menon Ekka, Gibyon and other relatives Jaikant Bara, Deepak Lakra, Roshan Minz and Ibrahim Ekka under IPC 109 (Abetment) and 13 (2) read with 13 (1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The chargesheet was filed on the basis of documents allegedly recovered during search operations on the premises of the ex-minister and his relatives.
It alleged that Enos Ekka bought property at Ranchi, Simdega, Gurgaon and Jalpaiguri either in his name or against the names of his relatives.
Enos Ekka, who is in judicial custody after he surrendered to a vigilance court in 2009, is facing charges of accumulating wealth disproportionate to his known source of income during his ministerial term between 2005 and 2008.
Later, the CBI took over the case.
