Chatra (Jharkhand): An FIR was lodged on Tuesday against a government employee for allegedly siphoning of Rs 15.94 lakh, which was to be distributed among the employees towards their salary and spent on a welfare scheme, a senior government official said here.

Chatra Block Development Officer, Parasnath Yadav, said he filed the FIR with the Sadar police station after the Block office's head assistant, Vijay Prasad Ambast, allegedly withdrew the amount from the government account and deposited it in his own bank account.

"He is also absconding after the incident came to light when staff salary was not disbursed. He withdrew the money and deposited in his bank account," BDO said.

A part of the amount was also kept for Antyodaya scheme, under which the administration distributes rice to the poor people, he said.
