Firearms racket busted, 17 held

Seventeen persons, including private security agency guards, were arrested and 19 firearms recovered at Adityapur in Saraikela-Kharswan district in past three days as police busted an illegal arms racket.

firearms recovered at Adityapur in Saraikela-Kharswan district
in past three days as police busted an illegal arms racket.

After the arrest of private security personnel Jaswant
along with firearm on Sunday last, police got the trail of the
racket and continued search operation which yielded 19
unlicensed firearms, mostly single and barrel guns.

Altogether 17 persons, including private security
personnel posted at some industrial units in Adityapur, were
rounded up during series of raids in next two days.

Police were investigating the involvement of some
personnel of private security agencies in Ranchi, Jamshedpur
and Kolkata in the racket.

The firearms were mostly purchased from Purulia in
neighbouring West Bengal.

The license of the firearms, purportedly done from
Jammu and Kashmir and Nagaland, were found to be forged, the
sources said.

The arrested persons were today remanded to jail
custody after being produced before a Saraikela court.
