Four Maoists were convicted on Wednesday by a local court for the Chilkari massacre in which former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandi`s son was among 20 villagers killed four years ago.

Giridih (Jharkhand): Four Maoists were
convicted on Wednesday by a local court for the Chilkari massacre in
which former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandi`s son
was among 20 villagers killed four years ago.
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge I
D Mishra will pronounce the quantum of sentence against
Chhatrapati Mandal, Manoj Rajwar, Jiten Marandi and Anil Ram
tomorrow.

The court acquitted Hafiz Ahmed, Tutlal Yadav, Kishan
Rajwar, Ram Sahay Das, Sitaram Turi and Mangru Kisku in the
case for want of evidence.

Police, who had arrested 10 people accused of
organising the October 26, 2007 midnight massacre during the
course of investigation, had alleged that all of them had
Maoist background.
Marandi`s son Anup, who had just married then, fell to
bullets along with 19 other villagers when he was watching a
cultural programme at Chilkari in the Deori police station
area in Giridih.

Marandi`s brother escaped the attack which was one of
the worst Naxal attacks in Jharkhand since its creation on
November 15, 2000.
