The fourth phase of panchayat election in Jharkhand was underway on Monday amid tight security as most polling booths are located in Maoist areas.

Ranchi: The fourth phase of panchayat election in Jharkhand was underway on Monday amid tight security as most polling booths are located in Maoist areas.

The polling will end at 3.00 pm, an official said.

Polling is taking place in 542 panchayats spread over 36 blocks of 12 districts. A total of 22,886 candidates are in the fray and more than 13 lakh voters are eligible to vote.
The five-phase panchayat elections began on November 27.
