Bokaro: Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed on Friday expressed concern over left-wing extremism in the state and stressed the importance of curbing it.

"Naxalism has increased in Jharkhand and efforts are being made to control it," Ahmed told reporters.

Asked to comment on alleged nexus between political leaders and the Maoists as feared by some leaders, he said there would be a probe into it.

Recently Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh reportedly expressed concern over alleged links between political parties and Naxals.

The state has lost 26 policemen who had been killed in Maoist violence since December 3.

Ahmed said the government was looking into the latest issue surrounding Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act in the state.

Several groups are opposing the Act which protects land owned by people belonging to SC/ST/OBC.

The Act says any transaction of land has to be between persons under the same police station and permission should be obtained from the deputy commissioner of the respective district.
