Chaibasa: A top police official today visited the Chaibasa divisional jail to probe yesterday's jail break in which 15 prisoners, all Naxalites, escaped while two other extremists were killed and three injured in police firing.
Jharkhand Inspector-General (Jail) Shailendra Bhusan, accompanied by AIG Tushar Ranjan Gupta, spent around four hours in the jail, police said.
The officials reportedly enquired about why neither the siren blew immediately after the incident nor a warning bell rang.
They also found that CCTV cameras and video-conferencing systems in the jail were non-functional, police said.
Even the security arrangement outside the jail premises was stated to be inadequate, they said.
The escapees include five hardcore Naxalites -- Bishu Bodra, Sahdeo Mahato alias Subhash Mahato, Bimal Gudia Johnson Ganju alias Chander alias Deepak, who is an expert in bomb making, and Taluka Kayam alias Maru alias Vikram Kayam.
An FIR has been registered against 21 and others in connection with the incident.
The administration of West Singhbhum district, under which Chaibasa falls, has beefed up security arrangement in and around the jail premises.
