Kodarma: In an embarrassment to the BJP-led government in Jharkhand, state Education Minister Neera Yadav paid floral tributes to former president APJ Abdul Kalam, who is alive and in the pink of health, at an event here.

Yadav garlanded Kalam's photo, which is not considered auspicious according to the Hindu tradition as it is done to pay respect to a person after his death.

More surprising was the fact that none of the attendees, including BJP MLA Manish Jaiswal and the principal of the school, raised any objection to it.

Yadav, who was invited as the chief guest, later inaugurated the smart classes. However, her act before the inauguration raised a question mark on her knowledge.

Facing flak, Yadav defended herself, saying that in such schools, photos of great leaders are garlanded to honour them and is a way to pay respect, a news channel reported.

Zee Media wishes Dr Kalam a happy and long life.
